Kikai volcano (Ryukyu Islands, Japan) - Smithsonian / USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report for 26 July-1 August 2023 (New Activity / Unrest)

JMA reported that minor eruptive activity was recorded at Satsuma Iwo-jima, a subaerial part of Kikai's NW caldera rim, during 24-31 July. White gas-and-steam plumes rose 600 m above the crater rim. Surveillance cameras observed nightly incandescence.
The Alert Level remained at 2 (on a 5-level scale), and residents were warned to stay 500 m away from the crater.
