A magnitude 3.6 earthquake near Red Dog Mine, Northwest Arctic, Alaska, USA, was reported only 20 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 9.1 miles beneath the epicenter early morning on Monday, April 29th, 2024, at 1:00 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Red Dog Mine (pop. 310, 51 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
