A stronger-than-usual explosion took place from the volcano's cinder cone at 00:50 local time last night. A spectacular grey ash-laden plume reached up to 16,000 ft (4,800 m) altitude and extended towards the west.

The volcano observatory reported a seismic signal with a maximum amplitude of 28 mm and a duration of 206 seconds.
